Absolute Confidence
Character Sketch: Trace Byokker

City of Rain. Imprisoned in solitary confinement. Ankles and wrists restrained.
I thought about killing myself.
But, that’d be pointless.
You see, I believe in reincarnation. And, that works in my favor.
I have a goal, and I will achieve it all costs.
How foolish that I was trying to be the greatest and lamenting the fact that I was not.
I am already the greatest. I just need to breathe.
If I don’t get it now, I’ll get it the next time. The next, and the next.
And if I die, I’ll ask God to send me back. To the world of grief and suffering, joy and ambition.
And if I fall, I’ll grab Lucifer by the throat and crush his pride to return.
You see, I believe in reincarnation.
I’ll will myself till infinity on.
Break me. Soil me. Ruin me. But, my spirit will never die.
Storm. Hatred. Fury. I stand above.
My will immortal, man will kneel.
The door swings open. Light fills the rusty room.
“You’re free to go.” said the warden.
“Free? I was never imprisoned.” said Trace, corrosively.
He steps out the last door to the outside. A group of four awaits him. The leader steps out in front of him.
“You have an interesting fourth.” said the leader.
“Who are you?” asked Trace.
“I am a recruiter of sorts. Someone who looks for people like you.”
“Like me?”
“Why yes. We’re all the same.”
“The same? What makes you think tha — ”
Trace suddenly kneeled. Both patellae were crushed as his knees were smashed into the ground. He looked up at the woman, an aura of electricity and bloodthirst.
“I see.” said Trace. “We’re alike.”
“The name is Lucy.”
