Comments on the 2016 Mountain Equipment Co-op Election

I was on the board of MEC from 1980–1984. I probably wouldn’t qualify today. In those days we were all Vancouver based outdoor lovers - mostly skiers, hikers and climbers. MEC has changed a lot, but many things are still the same.

You make good comments on the current board policies.

I think some of these policies are the result of having people elected in the past with very different views of what they want to see from the coop. It is very difficult dealing with some people on the board if they take different positions on most decisions.

I think the board should engage the members more on some decisions. I can’t remember very many surveys from MEC.

I suppose we vote every time we buy something there. Their marketing information from sales records must be huge.

But sometimes: Small is Beautiful!
