We’ve actually never used this approach or any flavor of design thinking on “small size features” — only large, complex, (often) enterprise platforms; either new or rethinking / disrupting existing.

Why? Because the challenge needs to be fundamental and tie back to a core business challenge / opportunity, otherwise it’s too much of a commitment of resources and can simply be funneled through a more streamlined product development process.
