So others can keep striding
While at the barber shop today, this box caught my eye:

It turns out that there’s a brilliant nonprofit that collects new pairs of socks, or money to buy them, for the homeless. The nonprofit, S.O.C.K.S. — So Others Can Keep Striding — was started by Damon Jones, who voluntarily spent one night in a homeless shelter and discovered how great the need was for clean, dry socks.
I can dig that! If there’s one thing that burns me, it’s the plight of the homeless, and even more so, the stipping away by society of their humanity. I’m happy that Mr. Jones is stepping up to the plate to give people like me to chance to help someone in need.
Here’s more of the founder’s story:
The SOCKS story begins on a cold winter night in 2013. Damon Jones, the founder of the initiative, volunteered to spend the night in a homeless shelter hosted by his church. To his surprise, the men spent a great deal of time discussing the value of clean, dry socks.
They explained the importance of maintaining healthy feet as they are the primary means of transportation from one place to another. Once socks get worn or wet, they are virtually useless, and can cause athletes foot or callouses that make walking difficult.
When Damon woke up in the morning the idea for S.O.C.K.S. came to him in a vision. Now, after a year he is pursuing the vision with tenacity and hitting the streets armed with socks to give away.
