This can be compared to the way that a company might keep a talent pool of candidates so that when the time is right and there becomes an opening or a need, access to those candidates is quick, easy and much less expensive a process than to start from scratch.
The England squad for the Euros is proof that this method of recruitment not only has its benefits in terms of reducing cost, but also at delivering quality, being as both Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) and Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) made this years’ England team; both Vardy and Kane were nominees for the PFA Player of the year award with Vardy costing just £1million and Kane costing £0.
It’s important to keep your eye on, and in contact with, those candidates that aren’t right for you just yet, as when there is a need for a specific skill set, starting from scratch usually means an expensive and time-consuming process.
