Dear Mr. President
I was up all night watching people speak on the senate floor, watching people fight for the millions of us who depend on our healthcare to survive. Watching an old white man read from a book and refuse to answer questions explaining what he was (incoherently) defending. Watching and praying that I could continue to breathe a little longer.
More importantly though, my 16 year old daughter watched all night. She watched as people who will have access to medical care for their entire lives debated whether or not to essentially kill her mother. The fear in her eyes was real. The questions she asked were profound. Yet this orange man insists he cares about children. ‘Beautiful, beautiful children.’
How can you care for children yet be dead set on killing the weakest of them? How can you proclaim to care for the youth of this country and have no hesitation in ripping their parents from them? You would be happy to let them watch their loved ones suffer.
Mr. President, you sir make zero sense. You are a walking contradiction, a heartless man.
So many of us are already at risk, because we are forced to make our meds last longer than they are supposed to. So many of us have already lost everything due to a medical situation we didn’t ask for. That is simply not enough for you though. You would prefer to see millions of us buried 6 ft under. You would prefer to watch Americans lose everything they have to pay for medication and care, because they will have no help doing so and cannot survive without it.
You do not have a care in the world for our children. You have no concern for the kids that will lose their lives without medical care. You have zero concern for the kids that will lose parents without medical care. Those kids don’t matter to you.
If only you could have looked into the fearful eyes of my 16 year old last night. The eyes that filled with worry and fear. Heard her praying as Senators spoke. This child, who dreams of being a doctor and helping this world, sat in fear that no one would help keep her mother on this earth.
To the amazing Spoonie community I say this, hold your children tighter. If it is age appropriate, teach them how the government works. Do not hide the truth from them, you do not want them getting information from social media. Allow them to come to their own conclusions.
Our kids, who have to see us on our worst days, already have worry inside of them. They may hide it well but they are aware. Let them stand up and fight with you!
For now we can breathe a little easier, but always be prepared to pick up the phone. Always be prepared to fight longer and harder than ever before. We fight our bodies every single day and now we must fight for them!!
