Call me stupid or old school, I still believe in outlet purchases. Who’s with me?
My trainer in Marketing seminar once told me, your culture (especially from family) can influence your choice of purchase channel. Well, I was born in a small town and live there until I finished college. I don’t really believe in online purchasing, nor online banking, err… specially online banking. It’s like I’m afraid if there is something wrong with the system and I have to wait at least 3 days to get my money back. My Mom never use online banking (yes, never), and myself never know or done any online banking until these past 3 years — when it’s already 6 years since I live and work in big city.
Well, thanks, Mom 😒
My first online shopping experience was in Zalora, when I purchased 3 tops (I returned 1 of it because of the size — of course) and it was only last year. Yeah. I know. Little bit too late for the online shopping euphoria.
But even when I know how easy and convenient online shopping is, I still do store purchasing to buy something expensive like handphone or branded things. I just have to make sure that it is not fake and worth the price. I even ignored my friend’s reference to buy the same watch that I saw in store, via trusted online shopping platform. The price is waaayyy cheaper then its store price, but again — thanks to my Mother — I bought the watch in their original store. Ha ha ha.
But I don’t mind, I got this self-satisfied feeling when I bought it in store. Knowing that I bought the original one, even it comes with the price. My brain said “you invest in it, so you have to bloody sure it’s not fake”. And yeah, Self-satisfied is important to me (uh-huh, I’m that selfish).
I read in some blogs, sometimes people using multichannel to purchase something: they search it in store and buy it online (because it’s way cheaper), or they search it online and buy it in store (because they have to adjust the size, etc). But for me, I devide it based on price, I buy something cheap (not more than IDR500k) and functional tools through online (cloths, accessories, tools, etc), and I buy something prestige through store (watch, branded shoes, handphone, etc). For banking, I also do small transactions through online banking and still go to ATM to do important and big transactions (somehow I feel hard copy is more credible than soft copy one).
So yeah.. Imagine if I still live with my parents now.. I will never know that I can buy something fashionable and cheap without have to leave my bed. And maybe I still have to go to ATM in the bank area to make the payment (my Mom trust ATM that located in the bank area more than ATM in convenience store which is near from our home).
Oh, I miss Mom.
