I’m responding to the change of use re. notes, in Medium 2.0. I understand that they are now entirely private and intended mainly for use at the copy-editing stage of things. I recognise the utility of that change. It streamlines the communication.

Withal, until this change, I used notes (a lot) to incorporate cross-references and citations. For readers that want that information, it’s there. But for most readers, it creates more fluid content by removing the citations from within the text (or parenthesis).

This is relevant to certain kinds of writing, such as academic and religious, where citations are commonly used in support of content.

Do you have any plans to facilitate citations or cross-referencing or footnotes etc. in the future, I wonder? Anything that I can hold out hope for as I consider how to re-arrange the content.
