Okay. I think my favorites are Dear Bob, Please Don’t Sue Me and Piercing the Icewall. I totes hear the ska influence and I luuuurve cheerful punk. I think I have an old Sugarcubes album around here somewhere.
At times, I hear some similarities to Panic at the Disco, All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, and even a little Piebald in there. I fucking love Piebald.
The whole album made me reminisce, because high school was when I got super into ska. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Madness, No Doubt, Sublime obvi (to steal a phrase from Jules, my husband has undying bone for Bradley Nowell and I knew all the words to Wrong Way at 9 or 10), Reel Big Fish, etc. I need brass in my life. Love brass. Loved the two-tone ska movement. As brief as it was, it played a major part in my formative years.
But you’re right. Without the brass, the hornyness — hah! — it’s punk. And punk ain’t half bad either. Cheerful punk is delightful. This was delightful. Thanks for sharing Oliver. Made my day.
