A NECESSARY REST

This just obliterated me. Tears for days.

I have only seen my husband cry four times. Once at our wedding, once when our son was born, once during Toy Story 3 (though he doesn’t cop to this one), and once when his dog of 16 years, Hemingway, died. He cried the hardest and longest at the last.

Sometimes I don’t know why we do that to ourselves, considering we go into raising a pet knowing that their lifespans are much shorter than ours. But then I think about the love pets provide — that simple, happy, freely-given, unconditional kind of love — and I get it. Everyone should be so lucky.
