Review: I recently started this as a novel study with my kids but regretted it. It is full of offensive and false stereotypes (none of which I remembered from when I read this book as a child). Constantly correcting all the inaccuracies in the book and trying to explain them to my kids was exhausting and I think it went over their heads. Things were different when we were kids but now that we are better educated about indigenous peoples, there is no excuse for this kind of garbage literature.

Review: This is a book I enjoyed as a child and it started me on a journey of loving to read. I was having a hard time teaching my 8 year old the joys of reading until I introduced this book to him. I love that the author challenges the young reader with new words instead of it being dreadfully simple. It’s just enough detail and just enough of a challenge with a wonderful mix of excitement. I also used this book as a class in my homeschool co-op. All the kids loved it, we have wonderful discussions about the chapters each week. I’ve had some students parents tell me how their child that hates reading has absolutely loved this book. The kids in my class have already asked several times about doing a class on the next book. I absolutely recommend this book!

Review: Omri was not pleased with the gift his best friend had given him. What was he to do with a little plastic indian without a cowboy? When he got home that day he was equally unimpressed with a cupboard that his brother got him that didn’t even have a key, but his mother had a super cool old skeleton key that fit perfectly. Omri had nothing better to put into his new cupboard but his new indian, so he puts it inside and locks it with his new key. Not long afterwards he hears something coming from inside his cupboard, but his little plastic Indian is the only thing inside?This was the last read aloud I got through with my students before all this craziness happened. I loved this classic book and so did all my students. Many of my students consider this one of their favorites now. This book has so many great characters that are so easy to fall in love with!

Review: Bought for my grandson’s as had given away the copy I had from 30 years ago! Can’t wait to read it to them. This was the most entertaining book I ever read to any of my children — close to Pooh! If you live in the USA, and giving to a child to read by himself/herself, you need to first explain what a “cupboard” is in Great Britain and just a few other English terms. Bedtime was looked forward to when reading this to my child 30 yrs ago! Hope it has same effect on my grandsons!

Review: I ordered three copies for my homeschool classroom ages 7–10. As a young girl I really enjoyed this book, it inspired me to make a cupboard with a key and red string, I took it to school with a toy Indian and it was my favorite memory. Today, it’s mostly my 7 year old son who enjoys this book. My 10 year old daughter and her friend they seem to pretend uninterested but drawn in as we go. I tell my kids that this is their first book with “detail” so that is why they aren’t used to it. This book allowed us to have a discussion about how with great power comes responsibility. Omri doesn’t abuse his power the way Patrick seems to want to go crazy. So the story is full of interesting discussions and gives us plenty to chat about and enjoy.
