Dispatches from Elsewhere(AMC) — Review
The new limited series from AMC dares to ask audiences to both be patient and cerebral. The show is boldly original while strangely familiar. It features some standout performances including from actor and series creator Jason Segal and Richard E. Grant.

The explosion of original content on streaming services combined with our general addiction to DVR/TiVo/etc. has led to an avalanche of creative content for television. In the past five years alone, the number of new series that have defied convention and challenged the so-called norms of episodic TV are too many to count (although I’ll make a quick nod to Mr.Robot as my personal favorite).
But even so, few TV series have arrived as quirky and unconventional as AMC’s Dispatches from Elsewhere.
The star of the series, Jason Segal (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), is also the creative force behind it. Segal told Rolling Stone that he starting writing the premise for the show a few years ago when he was prepping for the role of David Foster Wallace in The End of the Tour. He refers to the story…
