Ranking Every State Flag

I saw someone on twitter who ranked his top 10 state flags and thought that looked like fun so I’m doing all 50 because I have too much time on my hands. I’m too lazy to show a picture for each one so you’ll just have to scroll up to this picture at the top to see each one. Sue me. It’s not like you care about this anyways.

50 — Mississippi

If you want people to know you wish slavery was still legal you could at least be subtle about it. Literally having the confederate flag on your state flag is both racist AND lazy. I would say Mississippi is better than this, but I don’t think they are.

Tie 49 — Every state that slapped their seal on a blue background

I absolutely hate every single one of these. This is the laziest shit I’ve ever seen. I don’t even know if these are all state seals but they all suck, and there’s TWENTY-THREE OF THEM. Any state that has one of these should be ashamed that they haven’t changed it.

Tie 26 — Every state that slapped their seal on a different background color

There’s five more of these, so just like that we’re down to only 21 left. These all suck ass too, but they get points for not being blue.

Tie 21 — Florida & Alabama

They’re the exact same flag but Florida slapped a seal on it. Also I’m pretty sure these have something to do with the confederacy, but to be fair I think almost every state that was in the confederacy has a flag that has something to do with it. These flags are just meh anyways.

19 — Arkansas

It looks like some sort of Las Vegas strip reject. Pairs nicely with a “white pride” billboard.

18 — Missouri

If I didn’t live in Missouri I probably couldn’t tell the difference between this and the Paraguay flag.

17 — Indiana

I have absolutely no clue if this is a state seal but if it is, it looks cooler than the rest of them.

16 — Iowa

Reject French flag looking ass.

15 — Ohio

I can picture some guy back in 1895 or whenever taking a big puff of a cigar and declaring that Ohio’s flag will stand out because it’s a different shape. And, yeah, he’s not wrong. But it also looks stupid.

14 and 13 — North Carolina & Texas

If anyone from Texas reads this they’ll probably be mad at me, but these are pretty much the same flag. Texas is a little better because it has the star instead of the seal thingy. We are getting into the territory where I actually start to like the flags though. Out of 50 tries only 14 states managed to get them right. Smh.

12 — Wyoming

Thank god the border around the edge saves it from being plain blue, but I love the bison.

11 — Maryland

This thing is chaos, but good chaos.

10 — Alaska

I do really like the constellation, but like… It doesn’t really look all THAT good? Maybe if it wasn’t blue like every other flag I’d like it more, but it’s still decent.

9 — Georgia

This probably has something to do with the confederacy and I don’t know it, but it’s a decent flag. The highest one with a state seal, I think (I don’t actually know).

8 — Hawaii

It looks good, and I do like the Union Jack in the corner. American, but not stereotypically American, just like Hawaii.

7 — Rhode Island

Love the gold and white. Once again I’m not sure if this is a state seal or not, but it looks fresh.

6 — California

The flag that has inspired many a conservative “people’s republic of California” joke actually looks really good and very unique. Love the stripe at the bottom and the big ass bear. Easily identifiable.

5 — Tennessee

Call me biased, but I love this flag. The little blue strip at the end is so unique but looks great, and the tri-star in the middle looks fantastic. It also probably has something to do with the confederacy, but what can you do.

4 — South Carolina

Is this the only southern flag that doesn’t have anything to do with the confederacy? In the state the civil war started?? What a unique, clean flag.

3 — Arizona

A good looking flag, the sunrise thingy is great. Recognizable AND cool. Just like how all of the universities in this state brand themselves.

2 — New Mexico

I LOVE this flag. The thingamajig in the middle (I’m sure this is a very meaningful symbol but I literally have no clue) is recognizable and good-looking, and the yellow really stands out in a sea of red, white, and blue. 10/10 good shit.

1 — Colorado

The flag that has become synonymous with weed takes the top spot. The flag itself looks good on its own, plus it has the instantly recognizable C thingy. A great flag, honestly.
