The poem Jealousy, by Billy Collins, has a very strong correlation to Othello. It touches the theme of betrayal and unfaithfulness much like Othello and Desdemona. Even if Desdemona was actually not unfaithful to Othello, The man in the poem is pretty much the same as Othello as they both know/suspect their wife is having an affair with another man. In the poem, the man knows of the affair between his lover and another man. Even the next day while the are having breakfast together, She insists she was in bed the whole night dreaming and lies to the man. Even though the man knows of the affair, he still cannot stop loving her. The topic of unfaithfulness also goes under the theme of betrayal. Betrayal is a very large part of the play Othello. The play starts of with betrayal as Iago and Roderigo is shown expressing their hatred and plotting against Othello. Throughout the play several characters either betray or are the victim of a betrayal. These characters include Othello, Desdemona, Michael Cassio, Iago and Emilia. I think this poem and the play Othello really have lots of similarities and i can definitely see a connection between them.
