Hebrews 9 — The Most Holy Place
Prior to Christ, the order was representation to God, through the priesthood, in the tabernacle. The people were represented by the ministers doing their ministry, in the appointed place, by the appointed method. The tabernacle was a representation of Heaven, as declared by Moses through the law. Blood was required. “…without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” 9:22 God ordained the requirement of blood. But, “…the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshipper.” 9:9 There is this idea of a cosmic bulldozer. Each time a sacrifice of an animal was made, the sin was pushed down the road a little further, and eventually, another sacrifice would need to be made to move it forward some more. “But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.” 9:26 This is the new order. The law has been fulfilled through the one, and once for all, perfect sacrifice of Christ. And the order of the earthly priesthood has gone away, Christ is now our High Priest. “…so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” 9:28
