Day 2…
Overall, it was a relaxing day. I woke up late and had my yogurt and listened to the rains. As soon as the rain stopped around 11 am, the stores opened. I ran to a local store and I bought myself a face towel and a regular one to shower with.
Later, I decided to try a local bar (bars here are like small restaurants in the USA) and I went to the one around the corner and below my flat (apartment). It was chill. I was the only customer with a teen girl and her mother working. I got the seafood soup of all the goods: clams, shrimp, etc and then I had chorizo and eggs. I chatted with them for awhile about my journey from the USA to Ferrol and they were very easygoing and friendly. They even recommended an academy I should contact if I want to give some classes. We’ll see.
Then, I met up with my co-worker, a religion teacher and her 11 year old son to see more of Ferrol and to grab a coffee. We chatted, mostly in English which she spoke very well, about our respective lives and what led me to Ferrol in the first place. She was excited to tell me to go to the school where I’ll be teaching English at in a few days, Monday!
I’m getting anxious and excited to meet the faculty and headmaster, who’s been very friendly via text (on WhatsApp, of course!). I cannot wait.
Also, I walk an hour (roundtrip) to this department store called AlCampo, the equivalent of a Ferrol Walmart, that is located near a highway but surprisingly very pedestrian friendly which I love about Spain and Spaniards in general is they like to walk. Plus, the drivers are nice and always aware of people crossing!
Also, in typical fashion I had an issue attempting to open my door to my apartment because it would get stuck and I ended up locking it after trying to turn the key in the right direction to unlock it. It was unequivocally a headache and a half.
Day 2 is done. I’m feeling like I’m taking in the moments ~ good and bad in stride. God is good.
