According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the summers of this season are going to be much hotter than those of the last year. Keeping this in mind, it becomes essential that you pick the right AC unit whose capacity is just right to give you faster and economical cooling for your home. Long gone are the days when an air conditioner was considered a mark of luxury. Today, it has found a fair place in almost every Indian household, not only in the metropolitan cities, but also in the smaller ones. Here we are discussing some of the things that will help you choose right AC for your home.

#1 Energy efficiency

With rising temperatures and increasing electricity bills, it would be wise to buy an energy efficient air conditioner unit. Air conditioners come with a star rated energy efficiency rating, abbreviated as the EER, which has been standardized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). On the basis of energy consumption, BEE rates air conditioners from 1 to 5. An AC with higher EEP indicates better energy efficiency. So, you should go for an AC with higher EER to keep your home cool during hot summer days while keeping your electricity bills to the minimum.

#2 Window AC or inverter split AC

Before going deeper into this comparison, remember split AC are more expensive than window AC. Now coming to the differentiation, a window AC is the one that is installed on the window of your room. This air conditioner comes in a single unit that comprises motor, compressor, connecting pipes, condenser and other components of air conditioning. On the other hand, a split air conditioner comprises two units- indoor and outdoor units. Since compressor is installed inside the AC, split air conditioners are generally quieter than window ACs. As they come in sleeker designs they can be installed in rooms without windows.

#3 Capacity — One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Capacity is another important factor that one should consider when buying an air conditioner. According to rough estimates, an area in the range of 120 ~140 Sq. ft. will require an AC unit of 1 ton, while an area in the range of 150 ~180 Sq. ft. area will ideally require an AC unit of 1.5 ton cooling capacity. Buyers also need to consider the window size and the amount of light that comes in the room as these factors may also increase the temperature of the room.

#4 Inverter AC over Fixed-Speed AC

People looking for a more energy efficient air conditioner should choose an inverter split AC. The reason behind this is a fixed-speed air conditioner consumes more electricity as its motor keeps restarting frequently. In fixed-speed ACs compressor either runs at its peak or is switched off. This consumes lot of energy. On the other hand, inverter ACs consume relatively less power as their motor runs consistently on a constant speed. Inverter-equipped ACs are also known to have a better performance and longer life.

In addition to considering the factors discussed above, you should always spend some time in researching about the top AC brands and latest technologies in the domain of AC. It will help you in buying an energy-efficient air conditioner at best prices.
