Smith for 43rd Ward Alderman

Alderman Michele Smith has an inclusive, progressive vision for the 43rd Ward and has now been endorsed by both her former opponents (Jen Kramer and Jerry Quandt). She has fought to protect the environment (she was endorsed by the Sierra Club), for good public schools, and 21st century development. She is so clearly the best choice in my ward that I can deal with our disagreements on the Mayor and the minimum wage.

Smith’s opponent, Caroline Vickrey, is the candidate of the 1% and is pandering to the ugliest impulses in the ward. She wants to kick kids from disadvantaged communities out of our magnet schools (or so she said at the Old Town Candidates’ Forum) and opposes dense, transit-oriented development that Millennials (like me) want.

If Vickrey and her friends want a low-density, lily-white neighborhood that most of us can’t afford, they should move to Winnetka.

Let’s send Michele Smith back to city hall on April 7.
