Mortality

King or ruler I am not
Nor am I one to seek fortune’s fame
Yet, if I am a man as we are men
If I am one as life is in us all
Shall I live a life of solitude?
Nay, shall I live my life at all?
I have not a thousand years
I have not a hundred more
I have little left beyond my life
I ask for nothing as before
Simple man and mortal still
I can see nothing more than this
So here I sit a mortal man
To live in mortal bliss
To know a fate as mortals have
To know a life that ends
The days are short as mortals go
I live, for the morrow life begins
I live, for the morrow life may end
