

From Connecting to Homophily in Social Media
Whenever a person chooses to surf social media for whatever reason whether promoting business, searching for new information, how to sell a product, the decision is ultimately there’s. There is factor that contribute to feeling connected on social media, when a person wanting to meet new friends, interacting with distance family and friends, posting of selfie to attract attention on their post, and creating a celebrity behavior on platform, whatever the connection people are always in need of validation (Beat, 2017).
The idea of feeling popular when a person post picture that seems to attract comments, likes, or number of followers through social media review connection with individual that have similar interest which refer to as homophily. Study review that some people are addictive to social media, they sleep social media, eat, drink and dream about social media. Study also review that those who having psychological behavior will experience withdrawal if they stop using social media (Beat, 2017).
Concept of homophily
The concept of homophily in social medial are those with the same interest of a social group, people of the same feather flock together-than those with dissimilar interest. People in general like those who share commonalities creating a strong bond in friendship and relationship, however these are interest that causes by family, being part of an organizational cognitive processes, and social group. Example, on how we intend to interact and communicate between individual? Homophily refer to the level in which individual interact and respect depend on tribute such as, their beliefs system, education, and social status. Heterophily refer to which pairs of individual action are different in respect to the same tribute. The benefit of homophily is the advantage that bond a group of similar interest to interact that create communication to a more effective outcome (Rogers, and Bhowmik, 1970).
The advantage of homophily are called (synergy) which review that a emerges homophily can dominant when under different type of conditions (Fu, Nowak, and Fowler, 2012). Other benefit include participant having to overcome the allure of social media homophily-interacting with those of the same status or interest that exchange and share information, means to improve positive information of participant.
Contribution of platform algorithms to the development of homophily
The contribution of platform algorithms to development of homophily is that in our societies we rely on social media for information and these are carefully protected trade secrets, which means to influence such methods could be very challenging. Taken the three most popular social media platform that create major contribution of algorithms to social media are, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Each of these platform influence social media by engagement, interaction, and creating attraction that promote algorithms (Agrawal, 2016).
