It is not bigotry to dissociate oneself from one whose political views one dislikes. It is not bigotry to exclude people who boorishly inject politics — and race- into a moment that people wanted to be joyous and exciting. It is not bigotry to disagree with Kapernick’s premise- that police forces in America are inherently racist.
Kaepernick misused his position to make a calculated political statement. It drew unwanted to attention the team. If he signs with another team, unwanted attention is sure to follow. How is this not a legitimate factor in whether to hire him?
To his credit, I don’t hear Kaepernick whining about being blackballed. While I disagree with his politics, I have to admire his good works and that he placed his self-interest behind his cause. Virtue is its own reward. Good for him.
