Yes, there are a lot of pseudointellectuals. But I love actual intellectuals and I love big words. Usedcorrectly. I attended one of those colleges too and I came from a background something like yours. It sounds like your attendance at yours helped make you an excellent critical thinker.
I share your concern that the marketplace of ideas that I enjoyed at college seems threatened by politics which would suppress free speech.
I agree that being uneducated is not equivalent to not being intelligent. But I’m not so quick to let intelligent, uneducated people off the hook. If you have brains, you have a moral obligation to make the most of it. Whether your education is at college or from the public library, there is not excuse for letting intelligence go fallow.
And as for Trump supporters, I can forgive voting for him. (Personally, I voted for Romney but choked back my vomit and vote for Clinton.) But after what he has demonstrated in the first six months of his presidency, if you aren’t starting to have doubts about him, you’re no better than the far left liberals you’ve railed against so effectively here.
