Why I Hope that There Will Never Be an F6 Tornado

The most powerful force on the face of the planet: the tornado, more specifically, the F5 tornado. I think that Preacher from Twister was correct when he referred to an F5 tornado as “the finger of God,” as the damage from an F5 tornado is only comparable to the damage from Nagasaki or Hiroshima.

Damage from Joplin, MO (Left) and Hiroshima (right)

According to the creator of the Fujita Scale, Dr. Ted Fujita, there are 6 categories of tornadoes, F0 to F5, with an F0 tornado having estimated wind speeds of 40–72 mph, and an F5 tornado having estimated wind speeds of 261–318 mph. But Dr. Fujita theorized 6 more categories of tornadoes: F6-F12, with those estimated wind speeds of 319 — Mach 1 speed.

From Dr. Ted Fujita

We have already seen the damage created by a 302 mph tornado during the Bridge Creek-Moore Oklahoma Tornado on May 3, 1999, so I, and most definitely any person in history, would not want to imagine what any tornado with estimated winds above 319 mph is capable of.
