Last night, I went to a Ruby crash course. It was fantastic. We made a simple number guesser. The language seems super simple and intuitive. There are aspects of it that make it very attractive. I learned that the purpose of the language was to take what was fun and enjoyable about coding and put it into one language. Mission accomplished.

Yukihiro Matsumoto a.k.a. Matz

There was also something we learned about called MINISWAN. The creator of Ruby is Yukihiro Matsumoto a.k.a. Matz. We learned that with the aforementioned purpose of Ruby, he is also a nice guy. The concept of MINISWAN stands for Matz Is NIce So We Are Nice. The Ruby community has adopted this concept and are nice and welcoming to newbies and others. It’s pretty coo when you are the new kid to be welcomed openly versus having to work your way into the hierarchy.

So, where does this leave me? I’m really curious about learning this language and doing things with it. On the flip side is that I have read a myriad of articles that say that Ruby is dying and that everyone is going to Java. I have still have time to make a decision, but until then…
