Well put. I was similarly inspired by the New York Times piece: The Man Who Knew Too Little. While a full on news embargo is impractical, drastically cutting down the time I’ve spent consuming news has made me much happier. I’ve replaced that time with reading books and found it such a more fulfilling use of time.

I’m sure I came across this idea somewhere else on Medium, but my approach has been to sign up for the weekly political newsletter from NPR and limit myself to one hour a week or so of news media. With today’s 24 hour news cycle, anything that doesn’t make the weekly news letter probably isn’t consequential enough to really warrant much attention, so I don’t feel I missed much by only reading about the biggest issues.
