What did you do this past week?

I started off this week with the Labor Day holiday, for which I had traveled to Fort Worth to visit friends. My three-day weekend came to an abrupt end as I prepared for school and work this week. I work a few hours a week at a local tech company, so on Tuesday I found myself in the office. I was continuing a bug fix for an issue that had sneaked into production and created inconsistent data. The rest of the week I focused on schoolwork, as my classes began to fully ramp up and new homework being assigned. I will end this weekend by tailgating for the UT vs Tulsa game for a little bit before dragging myself back into the library to continue working on school assignments.

What’s in your way?

Luckily for me this week, I have few to none blockers in either schoolwork or office work. Time management is starting to become very critical, and if I don’t stay on top of everything deadlines will start sneaking up on me.

What will you do next week?

My schedule will continue as usual this upcoming week, with a combination of schoolwork and office work. One thing at the back of my mind are upcoming technical interviews for full-time positions, so next week I will get serious with my preparation.

What’s your experience of the class? (this question will vary, week to week)

So far my experience in taking this course has been very positive. I was cold-called for the first time this week, so I had the welcome opportunity to participate in class. Overall I’m very satisfied with the hands-on approach that this class takes to software development, and I’m excited to continue learning practical applications of computer science.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

For this week I’ll recommend Hacker News (https://news.ycombinator.com/). This is an excellent resource to stay up-to-date on all things software development and technology. Not only are there news articles that are relevant to the industry, many of the posts are on fascinating technology, software releases, etc.
