I agree with everything you’re saying.
But maybe maybe, just in this instance, taking away this particular platform of communication might help restore some balance and hand a modicum of power back into the rightful hands of the press, a.k.a. the Forth Estate.
Twitter was new. The press and the populace fell into a mesmerizing trap of react react react and it created an echo chamber that we’re still caught in.
If the President doesn’t have Twitter, sure, he can still use Facebook or whatever, but maybe that gives the media a second chance to not create a reporting standard in which everything that the President tweets is news.
No one has an unalienable right to a Twitter feed. Lots of other inflammatory folks have been blocked. In terms of actions within the realm of possibility that might make a difference in the short term, this might be one of them.
