Day 8 — Second Day of Trail Riding

We started out a little earlier this morning than yesterday — if you recall yesterday’s blog, the heat kicked all our tails. Today took us to the Gemini Bridges; a double arch of red rock and then back to the RV park to get out of the heat and eat some lunch. Some after lunch went to the store downtown while others took a nap. Mayor Cook and I took a trip to Moab City Hall and met up with the Mayor of Moab and Chief Mike Navarre of the Moab PD.

A lot of similarities were found in the way both Clemson and Moab were operating; but also there are a lot of exact opposites. Chief Navarre was kind enough to let us borrow a flat bed trailer form the PD so we would be able to trailer our RZR’s to other locations in the area; which is what we did this afternoon. We topped a mountain and took a view at the overlook for what is known as Castle Valley. Castle Valley is the location where a large number of western movies are filmed.

From there we went to what is called “Fins & Things.” You talk about trail riding. This was trail riding at his best. Unfortunately the pictures you will see do not give justice to the steepness of the climbs and the drop-offs we encountered. It is at Fins & Things Karen and I gave God many thank you’s for getting us through it.

Tomorrow, from what I hear is more of the same and then some. Therefore, I am sure we will again be giving God a bunch of “thank you’s.”

The next pictures are those taken on the walk into Gemini Bridges:

Next is Gemini Bridges — a double arch looking from below:

From here we traveled back to the RV park to wait until later afternoon to head out to Sand Flats and ride up the mountain.

Then the fun began — as if we haven’t already had more fun than any of us deserve.

Riding the slick rock at Fins & Things

The far right picture is what Karen and I were looking at after coming off the backside of one of the rocks. Roughly a 90 degree traverse straight down. There was a guy that wrestled in the NWA years ago that always began and ended his TV interviews with a big yell — none other than Rick Flair. All I can say about Fins and Things is: whoooooooooooooa baby!!!!

You ask what is everyone else doing? There are 5 couples or 10 total Traveling Tigers out here. Let me tell you, my main man Les “the root” Jones could be doing a Toyota Tundra commercial. He has put his truck through the paces. Tomorrow that crew will be taking the Colorado River ride and then tomorrow night we all be gathering for a picnic supper and some star gazing — weather permitting.

Please allow me as always to end what was a great day and prepare for some night-night time with: GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME!!
