The Road is Yours

Living on the road is one of my favorite things to do and when you’ve shared it with me it’s no mystery why. The proverbial road is a wide one and if you can imagine an infinity of them converging and expanding in an infinity of directions then you’ve begun to see into my world.

Instead of cars, the pavement is populated by people. The exits have evolved into experiences that are enumerated along the path. The lights are lessons and the lines are meant to be crossed under the right circumstances. The cars are few, but they’re obstacles and too many of them can easily become a frustration. The sky is my outlook and the various things that populate my road strangely affect the weather along my journey. Or maybe, it is my mindfulness that gives me an outlook I can enjoy. This requires practice, I think, since we can’t all love our obstacles… right? Maybe, maybe not. I’ll leave that one up to you. The landscape shifts, but that’s normal, so I try to take it in stride. The destination… hm, the destination. Well, the destination is a mystery, isn’t it? You never know when deviations and roadblocks will occur. A hitchhiker you pick up along the way could reveal roads you never knew and time, well, throws the biggest curveball of all. Let’s say Time is God in this little world of ours. Never touchable, never changeable, but throws a wrench in your plan whenever you think you’re on the tip of creating a good one.

Living on the road is one of my favorite things to do and when you’ve shared it with me it’s no mystery why. I think what makes a road so enjoyable to share with someone is the unwritten code we all know and abide by — or is it? Sharing the road with me requires a set of rules you didn’t think to create when you first took your driving class. I play the same game, I drive on the same road, but our rules our different. All other things being the same, the only difference is in the way we drive on the very same road. Take a step with me and see what futures have begun revealing themselves to you.

Take a step with anyone and become a passenger for a little while.

You might be surprised at how the rules differ in minute ways for each of us. And now that you know the secret, perhaps you will love your road a bit more too.
