The gaming industry is a massive generator of economic activity — and of landfill, but the environmental impact of the industry is only just being recognised.
It’s estimated that over 6 billion lbs of games and consoles sold — and even if all the products made by just Nintendo were dumped in a hole, the would weigh more than 5,555 Statues of Liberty. And what would you do with that many Statues of Liberty?
As this, from Big Fish Games shows, there is quite a problem looming. While we can look on the bright side and suggest that downloading games, instead of buying the physical versions, we would save 2.4bn gallons of crude oil, but all those gamers busily destroying virtual worlds, could be damaging a real one.
