I was watching some Ballislife highlights earlier on YouTube and per usual it made me want to get out there and hoop myself. It was a reminder of why I’m on a mission to come back stronger than ever, 1000%. It reminded me of the times a couple years back where I’d watch Ballislife mixtapes, mainly ankle breaker compilations, to get inspired then go hoop at the rec. I just now remembered that I have a playlist on YouTube named as such.
Sometime last year I made the decision that I will skate, snowboard, and play basketball for the rest of my life. I love them all too much not too. When it comes to basketball though, I realized that I really only have one mission: to master dribbling. I’ve always struggled with it yet it’s always been my main infatuation with basketball. The possibilities for moves are practically endless. Handling the rock is the one aspect of basketball that allows you to be the most creative. I think that’s why I’ve always gravitated towards streetball. Back in the “And 1" days when it aired on ESPN, Hot Sauce, The Professor, and Bone Collector to name a few were dudes I practically studied. Even more so once YouTube came around. I spent many a hours at the YMCA trying to emulate their crossovers, especially Professor’s.
I think there’s a sense of artistry in dribbling, especially in streetball. Having the ball on a string, being able to do whatever you want with the ball, however you want to is something that has always appealed to me.
Peace,
J
