If I had to pinpoint one of the many aspects that makes the Avatar series so great, I’d make a case for Uncle Iroh, without question. He is one of the funniest characters in my opinion and he is chock full of wisdom. I decided to go straight into The Legend of Korra (which I’ll speak more on later), the follow up series to The Last Airbender and I forgot that he even makes an appearance there. And why wouldn’t they? He’s too good of a character not to.
Towards the end of season two of The Last Airbender, Iroh gave all types of insightful wisdom as he was helping Zuko to find himself. There were a few quotes he had that stuck with me but one in particular was especially impactful:
You must have balance within yourself before you can bring balance to the world.
Something along those lines. I know this to be true because I’ve been trying to find that balance for so long. I believe that Iroh meant not only meant the world, but in your life as well. As I did with getting better with women, a lot of the times I looked for answers from elsewhere to solve my problems. I didn’t realize that it starts with me. It starts at how I view the situation. It starts with my mindset. If I wanted change to happen around me then I had to change first. That’s why I started to write affirmations daily a couple years ago, to change that internal chatterbox that’s held me back for so long.
It starts from within.
Peace,
J
