One thing that has helped me tremendously over the past year or so is keeping an on-the-go, all-purpose journal. I’ll use it as a daily planner, mapping out the day’s mission the night before and write down whatever else I find of value. These past couple days I started a section titled “DJ — Midday” where I’ll write a quick entry of what’s happened so far.
In yesterday’s entry I thought of an interesting way to view my journey in life. I came to the realization that my life’s challenge is to be great at everything I do, to master multiple trades. No matter what it was, ever since I was a kid I wanted to be the best. Competitiveness and perfectionism will certainly do that for you. And it’s because of that same competitive edge with a little rebellion thrown in that I challenge the fact that you can’t master multiple things. Staying in one lane the whole time, doesn’t work for me. Doing one thing, all the time, just doesn’t work for me.
So, I’m going to combine all of my various ‘lanes’ and create a highway, where I have some more room to maneuver. Because one lane just sounds boring.
