Tourist vote

Tourist should vote in elections. Sounds like a terrible idea but instead of disfranchised people I am all about allow the most amount of people to choose who they think is the best option to govern countries. Because it is really weird to think only the people who live in a place know what is best for them, as if it requires some special political understanding to choose better.

But let’s face that the current way we deal with elections don’t choose the best people who will make the best decision. It feels the other way around. Because when you restrict the voting you limit the scope of the survey. Democracy as we know isn’t very efficient because it excludes too many groups of people.

But instead on concentrating on what is bad about our current system let’s imagine what would change if you allow tourists to vote. My favourite idea about it is that border countries could enter in the country in mass, given they have the appropriate permission, to decide a congressperson of the neighbouring districts because his decisions could change the lives on the people on the other side of frontier. Instead of a politician that is blind with ideology, xenophobia and bigotry we end up with a person that will work together to solve all problems.

And the amount of people who can travel on any given day will limit the amount of tourists who will be able to vote. Because airfares would increase in value during election season as well it would bring so much business to all these cities. The more people voting the better to select someone who is exactly what people want.

Although the problem with voting is the idea the people could really decide who is the best at making proper decisions for everyone else. But the easier it is to vote and the more people you allow to cast a ballot less chances we have to get a really garbage candidate.

The American problem is that not enough people vote. It reflects on the terrible presidential candidates and the almost thuggish congresspeople and senators. Allowing tourist to vote could encourage the voting system to be more universal as it would be a great attraction for business and there would be incentive to make more like a Disney ride than a chore.
