I feel the article was an attack on Neil’s nerdy characteristics rather than on race. Apparently pointing out flaws in other people’s statements who have limited scientific based knowledge “sucks” the fun out of everything. His descriptions are widely passionate to me and I don’t see his comments as an attack on imagination and meaning like the author of the article thought. They’re funny and such comments help promote knowledge of science into mainstream. It’s never meant to denounce any individual, or their work, or the beauty of how we perceive things.
Though I did enjoy how the article illustrated it’s point. It’s well crafted. The original title from his blog was a lot better imo — “Neil deGrasse Tyson: pedantry in space.” It’s spot on and hilarious. The change was most likely a decision from WIRED.
As for the points you have made, they are wildly accurate in our society and can stand on their own irrelevant of the article. Thanks for writing, it actually does put into perspective the differences between how individuals of certain races must make decisions and conduct themselves.
