Bailey’s Stores, Gainesville, 1889

The migratory trail of those persons in Hall County was down from Virginia through Abbeville and Anderson Counties, South Carolina. They were those who drew in the lotteries for the land surrendered by the Cherokee Indians in the Treaties of 1817 and 1819. The first settlers were Scots-Irish, English and German, as well as Baptists, Methodists, and Presbyterians. Hall County Genealogy Records Online
