So it’s that time again — Countdown to the new year, and now we are fully in 2023. Yet, (Another) New Year.
I am reminded by the many articles — as well as by well-meaning family and friends — that the New Year is a good time for reflection and reconsideration of new goals.
New Year, New You!
As they say.
Don’t get me wrong — I’ve always been an avid practitioner of New Year Resolutions. Heck, I even have a colouring book dating back to 2010 with New Year Resolutions sprawled across various manila pages, marking the historic passing of time (and age. Sigh.)
Every year, I’d say I set 5 on average “resolutions”, or Big Goals. Scribbled across page after page, using different coloured markers and illustrations, in hopes that the visualised affair would do more in helping cement intent into action, for the upcoming year.
“Its written in 5 different colours for God’s sake — it’s got to come true!”
5 years later… Financial freedom and better health still seem to top that list.
It was about this time last year that I first came across an article about New Year Resolutions and why most fail. It’s because we mistake them for lofty goals, without concrete S.M.A.R.T. steps to get us there… This made a lot of sense, as I went back to the drawing board with my markers.
