Confused Millennial to Digital Marketer!
When you’re in high school, adults tend to ask “what do you want to be when you grow up?”. And most of the kids usually ponder the question and shrug their shoulders. I was one of those kids for as long as I could remember. I hated being asked this question as it only bought on pressure and anxiety. Choosing a career path is one of the most difficult decisions a person can make in their lifetime. Failure to choose a career, rather choosing a wrong one, can also lead to troubling and long-lasting consequences or I used to think so.
I have always wanted to take up a career that I love but the biggest challenge for me was that I have interest in many fields. My indecision was the greatest problem like most other young people today. As a typical millennial, I am uncertain of my future, my own abilities, and of the advice offered to me by parents and members of the traditional education system.
During my masters I recognized that I had an interest in marketing. After completing my studies, I joined a real estate firm as a marketing intern. My attempt to market on social media channels to new clients was, for lack of a better word, a failure. None of my attempts in gaining social media users on to my employers social media presence was a success. The posts weren’t seen by many people and those who saw didn’t share it with others.
Luckily, that’s when my husband introduced me to Digital Marketing Nanodegree program of Udacity. After going through their course content, I decided to join the program during the month of April, 2017 and chose to focus my attention on the future of digital marketing. From the moment I started my marketing course, I was hooked. So far, I have a feeling that this course would help me to be a much better marketer. I have already analyzed my failure as a marketing intern and theorized many of my pitfalls based on what I have learned so far in the course. I am eagerly looking forward to the coming weeks!
