It Was the Worst Of Time, It Was The Best Of Time

On the first day of Chinese New Year, my uncle shared a quote from the book “A Tale of 2 Cities” by Charles Dickens that goes like this:

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair”

He told us, indeed we are living in the worst time, but we are also living in the best time. We can either say this is the worst time and don’t do anything, or we can say this is the best time and start doing something. If you start doing something today, you’ll be ahead of many people when time is good. If you don’t do anything today, many people will be ahead of you when time is good.

He is a man whom has been through a lot of bad times, the time that many were saying “Malaysia is finished, this is the end”, time like May 13, economy meltdowns, and others. But Malaysia continue to flourish after those hard time.

So this is another one of those bad time, but if we stay positive, look at it as half glass full, start doing something, we will be fine. “If you follow God’s way and His commands, you will do even better”, he adds on.

To me, that’s a very nice way of starting Chinese New Year celebration, it means a lot more coming from someone like him. It’s a good reminder that — tough times don’t last, tough people do. And you’ll never go wrong by putting your trust in God.
