“Street Cred” — Is That Site Credible?

There are several ways to decide if a website is credible. Is the site:
• User friendly
• Great graphics
• Good writing
• Experts on the subject
• Links to relevant websites


Stanford University’s Persuasive Technology Lab has made it their goal to understand what makes a website credible. They found a multitude of factors affect credibility. Some of these are:

• Well-respected organization
• Recently updated site
• Sends confirmation emails
• Appears at the top of search results
• Designed for e-commerce

Two website categories which Stanford’s lab noticed had low credibility:
• Websites with commercial purposes
• Websites which look like they were made by amateurs
