Up-date your prescription lenses annually.

Ignoring even slight prescription changes puts stress on the optic system. As your eye muscles keep trying to accommodate, you’ll experience eye fatigue and headaches.

Add computer glasses to your eye wear apparel.

Using your everyday progressive lenses for long periods of computer work forces you to tilt your head in an upwards direction as you view the screen through the lower portion of the lenses. This bad posture causes both neck and back aches.

Computer lenses offer a taller and wider corridor for close-vision, bringing the PC screen into clear focus, while keeping your posture correct for PC work.

Wear sunglasses when outdoors — even on cloudy days, and especially in the winter!

Ultra-violet rays from the sun bombard your eyes from every direction including reflections from cement, water, sand, snow, and many other reflective surfaces.

Be sure to confirm that the lenses in your sunglasses are certified to filter at least 60% of UVA and 70% of UVB radiation. Excessive UV exposure is linked to age related macular degeneration and cataracts.

Sunglasses with inadequate UV protection are more harmful to your eyes than wearing nothing at all because dark lenses dilate the pupils which lets more radiation pass through to the retina.

Filter or reflect “blue light from screens” when using electronic devices.

90% of Americans are looking at digital device screens two or more hours per day. These devices emit the “blue light” that’s linked to age related macular degeneration.

Even if you’ve never needed to wear vision correcting lenses, you should wear lenses with a blue light protection coating if you use electronic devices more than two hours per day. This is especially important if you are using more than one device simultaneously.

Switch to Daily Disposable Contacts, so it’s easy to remember when to change them. Wear prescription glasses to give your eyes relief from the contacts at least one day each week.

Ulcers on the cornea and extreme eye lid irritation can result from not changing your contacts as often as the manufacturer specifies. Believe me, these are two problems that you definitely want to avoid!
