Welcome to the new school year!
It never ceases to amaze us. At the beginning of every summer, we blink and find ourselves on the doorstep of September. Though summer seems to be a little bit shorter every year, we are no less excited to open school. We never do grow accustomed to a quiet campus after graduation. We prefer to have the hustle and bustle of nearly 3,000 students on our campus every day.
Central in summer is nevertheless a sight to behold. Our Operations and Information Technology Departments pull it all apart, and then put it all together again. Teachers join us for training, curriculum writing, and many other projects. Students are here for Summer Institute courses and countless other programs. As we enter August, athletes and musicians start appearing on campus, chomping at the bit as they begin practice for the fall sports and band seasons. Though campus is definitely quieter over the summer, it is still buzzing with activities.
Here is a short list of this summer biggest projects:
- we upgraded communications and security systems, and added security staff;
- we hosted regional safety trainings for bus drivers;
- we improved our energy efficiency by installing LED lighting;
- we planned for the expansion of solar energy throughout the campus;
- we upgraded our track and field;
- we expanded existing programs and added new ones for students with special needs;
- we revised a great number of curriculum guides;
- we developed and presented two week-long training conferences for teachers and administrators.
And, we welcomed the Class of 2022 with a program for parents, a social for students, and an orientation day to introduce them to their new school.
This September kicks off a very important school year for Hunterdon Central, as we continue our work to define our goals and aspirations as a high school. Last year’s strategic planning efforts identified four focus areas for research and development: wellness, powerful learning, active partnerships, and service. One of our first steps this school year will be to take stock of all of the fantastic work that your children already do in those areas. From there, we will be eager to partner with our students and community to innovate. In the coming weeks, we will offer more information about our strategic planning work. There will be plenty of opportunities for parents to get involved.
For updates and information on our strategic planning efforts, keep an eye on this page. You can also follow me on Twitter (@JeffMooreEdD), where I will continue to share news on this and other topics.
The most important thing to share at this stage: we believe that relationships represent the strongest foundation of all of the good work that we do in all four of our focus areas. We are excited to forge new relationships and to strengthen the good relationships that we already have.
On September 5, we open our doors to students. We are eager to welcome everyone back!
Welcome to the 2018–2019 school year!
