The tragedy of the “reform conservative” movement is that they can’t admit to themselves that their interests are best served by centrist Democrats like Hillary Clinton. You want social tolerance, aggressive foreign policy, and corporate-friendly economics? Then what don’t you like about Hillary?

I suspect that cultural identity politics plays as large a part in the “reform conservatives” loyalty to the Republican Party as white identity politics plays for Trump supporters. They were came of age as Republicans, so they forever identify as Republicans and stand opposed to Democrats, regardless of how the parties evolve.
