All sentient beings are persons and they have he same rights that we claim because we consider ourselves moral; Rights are the corollary to the obligations of moral beings and are universal otherwise rights are relegated to privilege at the discretion of the powerful.

Apes, in fact all sentient nonhuman animals are persons. That we exalt ourselves above accountability for the harm that we cause those we don’t value not only negates our claims to rights but is the definition of evil.
