As a the only regular Army officer on a Navy-led provincial reconstruction team in Afghanistan in 2008, I worked for a Navy O5 submarine officer (?!). I was the team operations officer so I planned and coordinated most of the missions. In the Army, the commander provides guidance and intent and then lets subordinates figure out details. This guy provided neither guidance nor intent yet micromanaged everything I did. He was the worst boss I ever had.
