Thoughts on meteors & debates
As a Canadian I have a deep fascination with American politics.
This current election however has been deeply surreal especially since the choice seems to have somehow come down to Donald Trump & Hillary Clinton.
We are fairly used to multiple parties here. To be blunt most of the time you vote for whoever will beat the party/candidate you dislike the most. So this is pretty much what will happen with Trump & Clinton.
Former Gov. Gary Johnson is one of the more interesting presidential candidates in the race as he seems to actually represent what most people would want. Socially liberal, fiscally conservative, smarter government, good social programs, etc… You know… like the rest of the civilized world.
The problem with getting Gary Johnson elected is fairly linear
- To be elected he has to be considered viable and be known by the average american voter who can barely tell you what the issues are
- to be considered viable he’d have to be in at least one debate
- to be in a debate he’d have to poll at 15%
- to poll at 15% he’d have to be included in the polls
- a “meteor hitting earth” was included in one poll and polled at 13%
so… go meteor?
Full disclosure: I voted for the Liberal Party partly in the last election mostly because Conservative PM Stephen Harper HAD to go. I also think Obama has been a great president considering what he had to deal with.
