How making art is a lot like making coffee

Making art is a lot like making coffee. Here’s how.

Lots of people are doing it but few are doing it well.

There’s so much out there that it’s hard to know what’s good and what’s not-so- good.

The difference between really good and pretty good is not something everyone can discern but to a certain group of people that is a big difference. We tend to reward these people with special titles and listen to their opinions, valuing them even above our own.

Marketing matters. But it can’t replace the quality of the product. It can only augment it.

The barrier to entry is cheap. Everyone has the tools to make really good coffee and really good art. All they have to do is care enough.

There will be plenty of people who will choose to be willfully ignorant of all of the above and just settle for a pretty good cup of coffee or a pretty good piece of art.

Hopefully, that’s not you.
