This is far from a universal truth. I use a credit card exclusively for my purchases and I’ve never paid a cent of interest. On top of 4–5 mostly free plane tickets a year, I also get numerous other perks such as purchase price protections which save me around $100 a year. There are definitely people who can’t handle having a credit card, but saying that “credit cards are evil” is a drastic oversimplification.
