I concur that it’s crazy low, but you omitted the fact that they now have a $3 minimum fare. Here in Austin five pax an hour isn’t at all unusual on weekends, so that’s $15/hr before adding in surge prices and time and all that. (That said, Austin’s central core is quite compact, so most weekend-evening trips are under 10 minutes in length.) Also, I don’t know about Detroit specifically, but in many cities where Uber has cut rates, it’s instituted hourly minimums for drivers specifically because the rates are so miniscule. OTOH if the average Uber trip in the Detroit area is, say, 30 minutes, I concur that this rate of pay blows.
