WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BRAIN

By far, one of the greatest scientific discoveries of human history was that made by a pioneering Neurosurgeon, Dr Wilder Penfield. In his book, The Mystery of the Mind, he comes to a very interesting conclusion about the human brain. This, he did with the help of a little experiment which he used to observe brain activity.
He asked his subject to raise his arm. When he did so, a particular area of the brain lit up on the monitor. He then asked the subject to bring down the arm. Signals from that part of the brain were then deactivated.
Dr Penfield proceeded to stimulate that same area of the brain externally. This method succeeded in lifting the subject’s arm but when asked, the subject responded with all certainty that he didn’t raise his arm; his arm “lifted” on its own. When the stimulus was removed, the subject said that he didn’t drop his arm but his arm “fell” on its own.
Now here’s the big question: who or what raised the subject’s arm in the first case. Dr Penfield reasoned, if the brain could be controlled externally, it therefore means this: “The brain is a computer, but it is programmed by something outside of itself.”
Call it consciousness, true self, inner being… or you can just call it “soul”.
Just another age-old fact science has gotten right.
